CORE DISTRICTS
Since 2000, the Foundation has worked in partnership with a small number of districts to support the development of competent and confident readers and writers. Four districts currently participate in the initiative as Core Districts and provide models for others in the region: Cabrillo Unified School District, Oak Grove School District, San Mateo-Foster City School District, and the Santa Clara Unified School District. Teachers, coaches, principals, and districts administrators have participated in intensive early literacy professional development focused on the teaching of writing. Over the last seven years, each of the four districts has built significant internal capacity to carry on this work. Each year Core Districts have taken on more responsibility for providing the professional development necessary to sustain the effort. Supported by the Foundation, these districts continue to meet as a network to support the work. The Foundation will not be accepting new Core District applications. PARTNER DISTRICTS
During this same period of time, the Foundation has provided a less intense level of support to a group of Partner Districts interested in also implementing the writing workshop. The participating Partner Districts are: Belmont-Redwood Shores School District, Burlingame School District, Jefferson School District, Millbrae School District, Pacifica School District, south San Francisco Unified School. The Foundation will not be accepting new Partner District applications. You can read more about Partner Districts here:
AFFILIATE DISTRICTS
Affiliate Districts receive access to tools which support work within their district. These districts are pursuing a district plan to implement a writing workshop approach and have decided to associate with the Foundation in order to learn from the work of the Core and Partner Districts. Districts may apply for Affiliate District status by completing the following application form. You can read more about Affiliate Districts and the support available to them here:
