Please keep in mind that these studies are field trial versions and as such will have some rough spots that still need revisions. Please counsel your teachers to modify the studies as common sense dictates. For example, the pacing of a study may be inappropriate for a class, so the teacher should use his or her judgment in setting the pace of the study.
In addition, a few of the units were written for students who already have some experience with the writing workshop model; grade 4 is one such example. The grade 3 unit does a good job of setting the stage for students without experience in writing workshop, so you may want to ask your grade 4 teachers to use the first few lessons from the grade 3 unit before continuing with the grade 4 study.
We will be revising these units with feedback from the Literacy Teacher Leadership Training participants, and we hope to have final versions complete by this summer.
