A series of advanced seminars for teachers from Partner Districts. Participants will work in grade-level teams to design, teach and critique two four-week units: a narrative study and an informational study.
DATES & LOCATION
Registration and coffee at 8:00am
All sessions are 8:15am – 3:00pm
9/26/07, 9/27/07, 12/04/07, 1/16/08, 1/17/08 and 4/24/08
Location: Holbrook Palmer Park, Atherton [Directions]
REGISTRATION
The series is open to teachers of grades 2-5 in Partner Districts. A specified number of seats is allocated to schools and registration is handled through each districts' designated contact.
Teams will be comprised of 2-5 teachers from any two adjacent grades (2 & 3, 3 & 4, 4 & 5).
We STRONGLY suggest that teams include teachers from the same school, since they will need to plan and confer with one another between sessions.
Coaches and Teacher Leaders: It is very helpful to the teams to be accompanied by a coach or teacher leader, preferably someone who attended Unit Design last year.
REQUIREMENTS
Teachers who register need to agree to meet the following requirements:
- Teachers must have completed Induction or LTLT 1.
- Teachers must currently be teaching grade 2, 3, 4 or 5.
- Teachers must commit to attending all 6 days of the course.
- Teachers must commit to planning and teaching the studies in their classes, as well as bringing student work for discussion.
- The district will need to cover all substitute costs.
The Noyce Foundation will provide the required texts for all grades.
HOMEWORK
Prior to the first session participants will receive a confirmation email which will include their homework assignment, if any. After that, participants will be informed, during each session, of the homework that is required for the following session.
