PUTTING RESEARCH INTO ACTION

Putting Research into Action will focus on looking at articles and student work, making conjectures, and testing them in the classroom.  It is designed for teams of 2 or three teachers, who can share ideas and hopefully observe in each others classrooms; but  it’s open to anyone who has had previous work in SVMI and wants to go deeper into the change process.  The follow-up sessions will look in-depth at the big mathematical ideas of fractions and proportional reasoning. The follow-up sessions will also have a big emphasis on sharing student work. The follow-up sessions are also open to the lesson study group, so we can have a diverse range of classroom experiences to share. The follow-up sessions will have "homework" to try in the classroom. This homework or research might include a student interview, trying a lesson design or number talk, or bringing student work; but it will be designed by the participants.
