PROGRAM AREAS

The Noyce Foundation aims to improve teaching and learning in mathematics with the goal of developing conceptual understanding and high levels of mathematical skill in all students, kindergarten through algebra.

Most of the Foundation’s support for improving mathematics is through the Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative, a Foundation-operated program to improve math teaching and learning in school districts throughout Silicon Valley.

Other major mathematics grants include:

Urban Mathematics Leadership Network (University of Texas, Austin).  Support to address challenges in mathematics education by bringing district and state mathematics leaders together to align their mathematics improvement efforts.

Center for Collaborative Education.  Support for the Systemic Initiative in Mathematics and Science Education II, a three-year project to improve student achievement in math and science in 45 Massachusetts middle schools. The model focuses on math and science instruction, whole school reform, and training teacher leaders.

Southern Maine Partnership.  Support for improvement of teaching content in grades 6-12, especially in math and science.
